We developed the original Grounder sneaker for the United States military in the 1940s. The military needed canvas sneakers that were more practical, durable, and usable.
Our Field/Spec Collection elevates that original Grounder with premium features inspired by field-ready durability and spec-grade precision. Just like the original Grounder, every material, stitch, and texture was chosen with purpose.
It’s why our Field/Spec sneakers are made with reinforced canvas and suede leather uppers. The double-stitched panels nod to P.F. Flyers’ military history, while metal eyelets and utility-inspired rubber outsoles echo the details of vintage workwear and field boots.

A North End State of Mind
To celebrate the launch of our Field/Spec Collection, we took our newest sneakers to the North End.
Boston’s North End is a place where narrow streets are packed with generations of stories. The scent of espresso and sawdust drifting from open windows. Neighbors debating baseball on corners that haven’t changed in decades.
P.F. Flyers was born from this landscape of work ethic and authenticity. In the 1930s and ’40s, our sneakers were worn by soldiers, athletes, and laborers. The Field/Spec Collection channels that same energy, merging North End resilience with modern design.

Retro Military-Inspired Colorways
