About The Brand
What does the “P.F.” in P.F. Flyers stand for?"P.F." stands for Posture Foundation — the comfort our shoes are built on. It began with a 1937 patented footbed and grew into everything underfoot: the last, the wedge, the sole, the way canvas softens to your foot. Posture is how you carry yourself, and a shoe built on a foundation doesn't ask anything of you. Same conviction since 1937.
Who owns P.F. Flyers?P.F. Flyers is owned by Kassia Davis. Since July 2021, the CEO and Executive Chairwoman has led the heritage footwear brand into its next generation, proudly crafting comfortable and innovative sneakers while remaining a cultural icon.
What is P.F. Flyers famous for?P.F. Flyers is famous for being one of the world’s first sneaker brands. Launched in 1937, we became known for adding structure and support to canvas sneakers. Soon after, our comfortable footwear was worn by everyone from professional athletes to US Army soldiers during the mid-century. Learn more about our history here.
In the 1950s, P.F. Flyers made history again by teaming up with Celtics legend Bob Cousy, becoming the first shoe company to partner with an athlete. P.F. Flyers’ sneakers were also featured in the 1993 cult classic film The Sandlot, when Benny ‘The Jet’ Rodriguez wore them to Run Faster and Jump Higher.
Today, we continue building on that legacy by delivering premium high-tops and low-tops that carry heritage, comfort, and performance into every step.
Who wore P.F. Flyers in The Sandlot?Benny ‘The Jet’ Rodriguez wears our iconic black canvas sneakers in the 1993 film The Sandlot. In the nostalgic ‘90s movie, he laces up a pair of black Center High-Top shoes to outrun The Beast. That iconic cinema moment made our sneakers a pop culture icon, and cemented The 1993’s status as an everyday footwear staple. What is the difference between high-tops and low-tops?High-tops and low-tops offer different benefits depending on your sneaker preferences. People typically prefer high-tops for more coverage, a secure fit, added stability, and classic style. Meanwhile, some prefer low-tops due to their lighter weight, greater freedom of movement, breathability, versatility, and ease to put on and remove. Ultimately, the right sneaker choice for you depends on your personal taste and lifestyle. For a more in-depth breakdown of high-tops vs low-tops, check out our blog.
