Caitlin: The Grounder Lo was part of the P.F. Flyers archive from back in the 1940s when the Hi was a U.S. military-issue sneaker. The Lo was offered for a more casual, off-duty wearing occasion.
Q: Can you share any insights into the design process for The Grounder Lo?
Caitlin: The Grounder Lo is a functional design inspired by workwear and military surplus. It was designed to bridge street fashion and modern adventures. It offers a casual versatility and ease that pairs well with any head-to-toe look.

Caitlin: The Grounder Lo maintains the inherent qualities of The Grounder (durability, protection & versatility) while offering modern-day comfort through the Posture Foundation Magic Molded Wedge.

Q: Can you discuss the significance of Kitty Hawk, NC as the backdrop for this photoshoot and how it ties into the story of The Grounder Lo?
Caitlin: With Kitty Hawk’s aviation history, it ties nicely to The Grounder’s military aviation history in World War II.
The Wright brothers spent years in Kitty Hawk, NC in the early 1900s, meticulously testing and perfecting their aircraft in the very place where they made history with the world’s first powered flight. Inspired by this legacy, we chose the iconic backdrop of Kitty Hawk to capture our new lineup—rooted in both innovation and history, just like the birthplace of modern aviation. Our team was even able to shoot with The 1902 Wright Glider, which was built by the Wright Experience and is one of a few in existence. It’s also the only one available for the public to fly.
The Grounder Lo serves as a tribute to the rich aviation history of Kitty Hawk. This new style embodies the spirit of exploration and ambition that defined those who dared to dream of flying higher. Merging timeless elegance with a sense of adventure, The Grounder Lo reflects a legacy that celebrates both innovation and the pioneers who have inspired generations.

Ryan: I recently had a fun adventure in Hokone, Japan where I first tested The Grounder Lo. It held up nicely along the hiking trails as we enjoyed views of Mt. Fuji. The Grounder Lo is the perfect sneaker for a stroll downtown along the lake or walking up the ancient stone stairs to the temples. I would love to go back one day and explore more!
