Celebrating Women's History Month with the Women of P.F. Flyers

March is all about celebrating the women who push boundaries, break barriers, and pave the way for others. At P.F. Flyers, we’re proud to have a team powered by strong, hardworking women. In an industry still largely male-dominated, CEO Kassia Davis, CMO Lisa Lewis, Head of Product Caitlin Bendiak, and Head of Business Operations Mona Simmons are leading the charge. We talked with them about their journeys, shaping a legacy, and being trailblazers.

What inspired you to pursue a career in sneaker product development, and what keeps you passionate about the industry?

Kassia Davis: I grew up in the sneaker industry, so a part of me always knew it would be in my future. I'm fortunate that I was exposed to an industry at a young age that I genuinely developed a passion for. My hope is that I can show other females that it's possible to be a leader- whether that means following their dreams and launching their own brand or finally pushing for that promotion within a larger brand.

What are your hopes for the future when it comes to evening the playing field for women working in shoe brands?

Lisa Lewis: I hope we continue to see the growth of women in leadership positions. Whether it's in design, marketing, leadership or sneaker culture as a whole, women bring a perspective that's been overlooked for too long. My hope is that more brands recognize the power of having women at the table - not just as consumers, but as decision-makers, innovators, and game-changers shaping the future of the industry.

How do you ensure that the brand's product lineup remains inclusive and accessible to all types of consumers?

Caitlin Bendiak: P.F. Flyers has long been known for timeless style with classic, versatile design language, making its product line both inclusive and accessible to a wide range of consumers. We celebrate inclusivity by offering unisex sizing, breaking down traditional barriers in fashion, allowing anyone, regardless of gender, to wear and enjoy the same premium & stylish products.

How does offering a new perspective while upholding a legacy brand translate to P.F. Flyers?

Mona Simmons: P.F. Flyers has a rich history, and by combining heritage with new comfort technology, updated materials, and craftsmanship, we can exceed modern consumer expectations while maintaining timeless fashion that has persevered for nearly 90 years.

What advice would you give to women looking to enter the sneaker or fashion industry?

KD: It's still a male-dominated industry, but women are making major moves. Stay consistent, be confident in your skills, and don't be afraid to take up space.

LL: Build your own table. It's easy to think you need to follow a traditional path to success, but the reality is, some of the most exciting careers in fashion and marketing are built by people who created their own lane. The industry needs more women shaping the narrative.

CB: Champion your unique perspective, study the market & fashion trends, and obsess over the consumer & culture. Be passionate, stay curious and build a network of supportive mentors & peers.

MS: Trust your own abilities and instincts rather than feeling pressured to prove yourself. Surrounding yourself with a strong network of peers and mentors across various industries (regardless of gender) offers the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn best practices, enabling professional growth and boosting confidence.

What's your favorite P.F. Flyers sneaker, and how do you personally style it?

KD: Grounder Lo! I literally wear it with everything- jeans, leggings, casual dresses, you name it.

LL: I am obsessed with The All-American Hi in Antique White. It's the ultimate “goes with everything” sneaker.

CB: Grounder Lo is currently my favorite sneaker in my rotation. The olive green and black combination makes a statement and pulls together a look.

MS: The Grounder Lo in Sea Salt will be my next purchase. It is clean and classic, while also having a rugged and utilitarian vibe.

The new heights reached by this team led by women allows for a brighter tomorrow for all creatives, not just P.F. Flyers. Challenging industry norms makes it possible for everyone to have their voices heard. Their journeys provide an easier path for other women looking to make space for themselves in the footwear industry. At P.F. Flyers, we celebrate the achievements of women all year long.
