The Flyers Club is a group we created to celebrate people in our community with big ideas and even bigger personal style. We’re here to get to know YOU and share the people, places, and things that inspire you.
This week’s Flyers Club feature is Miriam Blanco. Miriam got into acting because of her love for telling stories. Early in her career, she realized how infrequently people with disabilities are seen on screen, and it became a driving force for her to change that.

I always wanted to be an accountant when I grew up. Yikes.
What’s one thing everyone knows about you?
I’m a storyteller. Whether working or playing, if you’ve known me for five minutes or five years, I’m always telling people stories.
Miriam loves to follow high fashion. Because her movement is limited, she looks for everyday wardrobe pieces that look good while supporting optimal range of motion for whatever activity she’s doing. With an Ortholite foam cotton sockliner and a soft, breathable mesh upper, the 1993 supports comfort and mobility all day long.
Vintage or new?
New
Who/what are your biggest style inspirations?
I love to look through the Vogue runway app, but my everyday wardrobe is inspired mostly by people who move. Having a disability, movement is limited for me, so I like to have my style support optimal movement for whatever activity I’m doing. I look to a lot of athletic and activewear brands when I need ideas.

Tell us (and the world) about YOU, who you are, and how you’re changing the game in your niche/world/domain
I got into acting because I love telling stories and realizing how infrequently people with disabilities are seen on screen, it became an important mission for me to change that. TV, film, and advertising have the power to shape culture by portraying disabled people engaged in society as they authentically are, and as they could be without the barriers that currently exist. I’ve seen the impact making some of the world’s largest brands more inclusive has had by casting me as a disabled actor and model, and I can’t describe the excitement and gratitude I feel for this work. This is only the beginning.
