Fashion is more than just what we wear—it's a powerful form of self-expression, cultural storytelling, and resilience. For the Black community, style has long been a statement of identity, a celebration of history, and a force of resistance. We believe in honoring these stories and amplifying the voices behind them.
In this spotlight feature, we sit down with Mikhail J. Wright to discuss the intersection of fashion and identity, the importance of representation in footwear, and what it means to stand strong in the face of adversity. From personal style influences to the power of community, Mikhail shares how fashion plays a role in his journey—and why it's always been about more than just shoes.

"Fashion is a statement, and for the Black community, it's a form of self-expression, resistance, and storytelling. When we see ourselves represented, it reminds us of our power. It's bigger than just clothes."
- Mikhail J. Wright
Q: What does Black History Month mean to you personally, and how do you celebrate it within your life or community?
A: Black History Month is a time for reflection, celebration, and education. It's about honoring Black individuals' resilience, achievements, and contributions—past and present. In my own life, I celebrate by supporting Black-owned businesses, engaging in community events, and continuing to educate myself and others about our history and cultural impact.
Q: What drew you to collaborate with P.F. Flyers for this photoshoot?
A: I was drawn to this collaboration because P.F. Flyers has such a rich legacy, and this campaign is about more than just shoes—it's about representation, storytelling, and honoring a sense of heritage. Being part of something that aligns with my values and personal style felt meaningful.

Q: How did you feel seeing yourself represented in The All-American 14 footwear line?
A: Seeing myself in The All-American 14 line was surreal. It's one thing to wear a brand you admire, but to be a part of something that represents a culture and style I connect with? It was a proud moment.
Q: How do you think representation in fashion, particularly in the footwear industry, is evolving, and why is it so important?
A: Representation in fashion is shifting, and footwear is a huge part of that. We're seeing more diversity, more authentic stories being told, and brands finally recognizing the culture that influences them. It's important because people want to see themselves reflected in the things they love, and when that happens, it creates a deeper connection.
Q: How would you describe your personal style, and how do shoes play a role in expressing that?
A: My style is a mix of the 70s-80s culture, streetwear, comfort, and creativity. I like to stand out but in a way that feels natural. Shoes are everything to me—they can make or break an outfit and say a lot about who you are without you even speaking.
Q: Are there any cultural or historical influences that inspire your style or view of fashion?
A: Absolutely. Hip-hop culture, 70s-80s fashion, and even my heritage all affect how I view style. There's something about blending the old with the new that just hits different.
Q: What role does fashion play in empowering and uplifting the BIPOC community?
A: Fashion is a statement, and for the Black community, it's a form of self-expression, resistance, and storytelling. When we see ourselves represented, it reminds us of our power. It's bigger than just clothes.
Q: How do you hope to continue using your platform to empower others or contribute to positive change?
A: I want to keep building spaces where people feel seen, supported, and inspired—whether through my business, collaborations, or just using my platform to uplift others. If I can help someone believe in themselves or push through, I'm doing something right.

Q: How has your personal story shaped who you are today as a business owner and individual?
A: My journey has been full of ups and downs, but every experience shaped me. As a business owner, I've learned resilience, adaptability, and the importance of community. As an individual, I've learned that my purpose is bigger than just me.
Q: You recently lost your business to a fire. Has this loss changed how you view your community or your role? How have others rallied around you?
A: Losing my business was one of the hardest things I've faced, but the way my community showed up for me? That changed everything. It reminded me that what I built wasn't just a business, it was a home for creatives, a movement. It made me even more committed to coming back stronger.
Q: As someone who's not a professional model, how did you feel stepping in front of the camera?
A: Man, stepping in front of the camera was outside my comfort zone, but I had fun. I just told myself to be present and own it.
Q: You've been through a lot lately, but you're still here, pushing forward. What does resilience mean to you, especially during tough times like these?
A: Resilience is about pushing forward, even when everything feels like it's falling apart. It's about believing in yourself, even when the odds are stacked against you. It's not easy, but it's necessary.
Q: What does it mean to be part of a community that lifts each other up, especially when facing personal or collective challenges?
A: Community is everything. When we uplift each other, we create spaces where people feel safe, supported, and empowered. It's about showing up not just when things are good but especially when they aren't.
Q: What message would you like to share with others going through similar struggles or setbacks in their own lives, especially in the BIPOC community?
A: Keep going. Your story isn't over just because you hit a setback. Struggles don't define you—how you rise from them does. And always remember, you're not alone. There's a whole community out here ready to lift you up.
