The innovative Posture Foundation gave us more than our name. It made history as the first patented insole for athletic footwear.
In 1933, Hyman L. Whitman, a scientist at B.F. Goodrich developed the revolutionary “Posture Foundation” insole. This breakthrough arch support system improved comfort and posture, transforming sneakers from flimsy canvas shoes into performance-ready footwear. Patented under U.S. Patent No. 1,938,127, the design provided structure, stability, and support that changed the way people moved.
By 1937, P.F. Flyers introduced sneakers featuring the Posture Foundation, forever reshaping athletic footwear. Generations of wearers gained better alignment, reduced strain, and more confidence with every stride. Nearly a century later, the legacy continues, and every sneaker collection is still built with a specially engineered Posture Foundation insole for all-day comfort, support, and performance.
